The new Neoskweskau Sports Complex in Mistissini has won an award in the Mechanical Electrical Buildings category at the Annual Quebec Engineering Association Awards, March 27.

Mistissini picked up the award for the innovative geothermal heating system of the sports complex.

Mistissini Chief John Longchap says the geothermal technology they used can reduce energy consumption by up to 67%, over conventional heating methods.

After beating the five other projects up for the award in Quebec, the sports complex is automatically entered in the upcoming nationwide competition at the Annual Canadian Engineers’ Awards in Quebec City in May 2008.

Chief Longchap says Mistissini “has one more reason to be proud of their community.” Longchap hopes the win will encourage the use of the sports complex as well as the community to take care of it.
