On June 14 at 9:25 am the Kativik Regional Police received a phone call from the Kuujjuarapik social club. Three male suspects entered the social club and one pointed a gun at the janitors who were cleaning up.
Nobody was harmed but a good quantity of alcohol was stolen before the three fled the scene. Three arrests have been made – two of the suspects are underage and one is an adult.
“They’re all known to the police for previous break-and-enters and other crimes,” said Sergeant Shawn McDonald of the Kativik Regional Police. The suspects were charged with firearms-related theft and break-and-entry.
The three are scheduled to appear at Kuujjuarapik’s next court hearing which will take place in October.
The Nation was unable to confirm if this is the first armed robbery in Kuujjuarapik. Officer Jean-Mathieu Lafleur stated, “As far as I know, there have been other incidents with guns but this is the first armed robbery as long as I’ve been working for the KRP.”
