The fourth annual Timmins hockey tourney Dec. 2-4 was bigger than ever this year, drawing 15 teams from the west coast of James Bay and southern towns like Timmins and Calstock.

Nine teams competed in open division play and six more in the newly created old-timers’ division. In upcoming years, organizers are thinking about offering women’s hockey and broomball.

The James Bay Hawks of Moosonee beat out Kashechewan’s James Bay Eagles 4-2 for the championship cup in the open division. In open division consolation play, the Calstock Oji-Crees came out 8-5 over the Peawanuck Hudson Bay Lightning. The Timmins Oldtimers took the old-timers cup in a 3-2 victory over Moosonee. Calstock’s Oldtimers won the consolation cup 4-3 against the Kashechewan Mushkegoes.
