Bella Petawabano handily won election as chairperson of the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay during the vote September 26, taking 1,627 votes over her only opponent, Roderick Pachano, who received 702.

Petawabano has 17 years of experience as a board member in the Cree Health Board along with 35 years of work in health and social services. Pachano is the former Chief of Chisasibi, with many years of experience in community service.

Petawabano took a majority of votes in every Cree community except for Chisasibi, where the former chief took a narrow edge.

Both candidates visited various Cree communities in an effort to spread their message and their vision for the next four years of Cree health services.
