In a historic move, the Mohawks of Quebec, Ontario, New York and Oklahoma are taking steps to form a Mohawk Nation Council to unite the people of all seven Mohawk territories.

“The people of the flint are looking forward to coming together as one,” says a Mohawk press release. “We want to be able to decide for ourselves these issues that pertain to us, to our territories, and what happens in Kanienkehaka territory.

“We are one people, we are one nation and we are following the Great Law of Peace.”

So far, Mohawks have held 13 meetings this fall and summer to discuss the council.

The press release also announces a meeting of the Mohawk Bear Clan to discuss the Mohawk Nation Council in the Tyendinaga Territory near Belleville, Ont. on Nov. 19.
