Mohawks of Akwesasne say they won’t go along if Quebec separates from Canada.

“They can take their own land, but they can’t take ours,” one Akwesasne Mohawk, Russell Roundpoint, told Canadian Press in July. “We have had enough hard times with Quebec and we’re not going to be a pan of their separation plans.”

Two-thirds of Akwesasne is within Quebec’s present borders.

Former Akwesasne Grand Chief Mike Mitchell said Mohawks are prepared to go to the UN to explain how their aboriginal and human rights would be compromised by a forced separation with Quebec.
