A Cree student is planning a research project to study the social impacts of the Mégiscane River hydro project this summer.
Rébecca Moore of Senneterre wants to interview Cree families in the areas that may be flooded or otherwise affected.
The rivers and lakes downstream will see their flow fall in a big way. The Mégiscane will fall by 80 per cent downstream from Lake Berthelot.
“These changes will no doubt have big repercussions on the environment. Lake Girouard would be probably the most heavily affected by the fall in water flow,” Moore said.
“Considering the size of the project, it would be essential that all Native people touchedby the project give their comments.”
