A 21-year-old Chisasibi woman attending Eastmain’s Childcare Educator Course has committed suicide.
Bernadette House was found in the basement of an Eastmain home by the woman she was staying with, according to Eastmain Senior Officer Oliver Moses. He is the police officer who responded to the call.
A nurse arrived at the scene to try to revive the victim, who had no vital signs. The nurse attempted CPR for about half an hour, to no avail. House was pronounced dead at 2 am on January 16.
Moses, who has been on the force for 18 years, said he feels sympathy for
the family.
“It’s really sad to see somebody die, especially to see his or her loved ones hurt,” he said.
In order to defuse possible copycat suicide attempts, the police have visited the school to reassure kids that suicide is not the way to deal with one’s problems.
