Eeyou Istchee has another victim of careless firearm storage, this time in Waswanipi.
On May 2, two children under 10 were left alone in a boat tied to a dock with a firearm nearby.
“A kid accidentally fired a .410 shot gun,” said Waswanipi Constable Wasesguin Gunner, one of the responding officers. “I can’t say who they are because they’re under the age of ten. One youth got shot and passed away due to a wound in his left rear stomach area. He was hit from behind.”
Gunner also told the Nation that the alleged shooter loaded the gun himself. There was one adult present but he was using the washroom at the time.
Police were still investigating at press time.
