Billy Diamond was re-elected by acclamation as Chief of Waskaganish in community elections on Sept. 20. He was the only candidate for the position.
Jimmy Trapper beat out two other candidates for the job of Deputy Chief with 164 votes versus 136 for Bert Moar Jr. and 75 for Ian Diamond.
Seventeen people ran for Councillor. Hugo Hester, Bert Blackned, Susan Esau, Robert Weistche and Albert Diamond were each elected for four-year terms. William (Billy) Stephen, Jimmy Trapper, Ruth Salt and Gerti Murdoch were elected for two years.
Kathy Black is the new local representative to the Board of Compensation. Gordon Blueboy, Hugo Hester Sr., Bert Moar Jr., Doris Kapashesit and Anderson Jolly will form the new elementary school committee.
The new secondary school committee is: William Hester Sr., George Diamond Jr., Ernest Blueboy, Frances Diamond and Walter Hester Jr.
