14th Annual Mistissini Invitational Senior Fastball & Softball Tournament Aug. 9-12, 2001

It was a heartbreaker that seemed to go on as Mistassini started off an inning with a home run by Steve Tremblay. The second inning saw another home run, but by the Lac Simion team. It almost seemed over when Lac Simion walked five players, but it wasn’t over by a long shot. Matthew Trapper played in ripped pants much to the enjoyment of the crowd. Mistissini was still ahead. Then it started getting hard as the scores, like in so many of the final games, showed anyone could win.

People were on the edge of their seats. I remember taking one picture where spectators said I should have the umpire join the winning team. People take their baseball seriously in Eeyou Istchee but one spectator said he didn’t like the fact that women’s baseball has all but disappeared in the past two years.

Personally, I enjoyed the fact that I liked the game without the traditional beer or two and the crowd seemed to agree with me. It was baseball at its best with all the fans rooting for their home team. An enjoyable time where everyones a winner.
