The Nation won an award for Best In-House Ad and honourable mentions for Best Investigative Story and Best Arts & Entertainment Story at the annual meeting of the Quebec Community Newspapers’ Association.

The award for Best In-House Ad went to a full-colour ad designed by Katerina Cizek with a photo by Neil Diamond. The ad, featuring the ever-photogenic Kataleen Webb, was for the 1996 Year of the Child in Nemaska.

A Best Investigative Story honourable mention went to Alex Roslin and William Nicholls for breaking the story of corruption at the hydro dam in Winneway, Qc. The Quebec government eventually launched an inquiry into corruption at this and other private dams in Quebec.

Deantha Edmunds took honourable mention for Best Arts & Entertainment Story for a beautiful feature on Susan Aglukark’s concert in Chisasibi last year.
